Virtanen to sign books in Schenectady
Michael Virtanen will be signing copies of his new suspense novel, The River’s Tale, at the Open Door Bookstore in Schenectady on Saturday, June 15, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The River’s Tale is a prequel to Virtanen’s award-winning first novel, Within a Forest Dark. Both are set largely in the Adirondacks. In The River’s Tale, Alison Reade flees to the Adirondacks to escape an obsessive boyfriend. She takes a job as a rafting guide and starts to fall in love with her charismatic boss. Life is good until she discovers the Adirondacks are not the safe haven she thought they were.
Virtanen’s first book won the Adirondack Center for Writing’s award for best fiction of 2007. The protagonist, Jack Kirkland, reappears in The River’s Tale as an insurance examiner looking into a drowning on the Hudson River.
The Open Door is located at 128 Jay St. in downtown Schenectady.
